White RocksThis is a small quality limestone cliff, the region’s “nursery crag” and the most accessible limestone in the area. This is a perfect place for climbers fresh from the gym to safely learn both rock climbing & abseiling outdoors.
It is in a beautiful location set high above the Queanbeyan River facing the Eastern Escarpment and less than 20 minutes from the centre of Canberra.
Scout Crag
Scout Crag is a river crag above the Murrumbidgee River upstream from the Cotter Bridge. It is an interesting mixture of granite and metamorphic rock.
It is also high above the river and a spectacular place to learn abseiling and basic climbing technique.
Scout Crag is also less than 30 minutes from the centre of Canberra.
Gibraltar Rocks
Gibraltar Rocks is in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
Beginner climbers will be instructed in single pitch climbs with a host of interesting problems in the most amazing settings.
Gibraltar is popular in winter because it isn’t as cold as the higher crags.
Booroomba Rocks
At Booroomba new climbers will be introduced to granite climbing.
Booroomba is an iconic granite climbing area in Namadgi National Park, 30 minutes to the south of Canberra.
It is noted for its slab climbing and can be seen clearly from Canberra having the tallest climbs in the region.
The rocks are divided into several areas, the most prominent being North Buttress, Middle Rocks, and South Buttress.
Requirements
- Wear comfortable clothing that’s suitable for the weather (and bring a jacket in case the weather changes!)
- Wear appropriate footwear such as running and training shoes.
- Wet weather gear will be required on cooler or damp days (abseiling will go ahead in light rain).
- Bring water, lunch, sunscreen and a daypack for your personal gear.
- All climbing and abseiling gear will be provided.
